Cricket Manager is a cricket management computer game I am writing for the PC. These are the planned features of Cricket Manager. People wanted to help with the game. The earliest a demo version will appear is sometime in 2004 so please do not email me asking me when a demo is out or how work is progressing. All news will appear here.
Development on Cricket Manager may have been stalled for quite a while but it is definitely not forgotten. Over the last few months I have been able to spend some time working on Cricket Manager. I have pretty much completed the Match Engine for First Class games. I have decided to make available the Test Harness program I use to test the Match Engine. The download file is 183Kb and needs to be unZIPped in to a directory (make sure you have create sub-directories option on - normally on by default). To start the program navigate to the folder you extracted the files in to and run CricketManagerTestHarness.exe. There are a few important notes about the Test Harness which are displayed on the opening screen. As I add more working leagues I hope to update this program. The league being used currently as a test is the Pura cup. There is now an professional artist who will start working on Cricket Manager in the next few weeks.
Recently was able to spend a few hours looking at the code and design to date. Considering it is ages since I last looked at it I still was able to remember why I had designed it the way I had and follow what I have already implemented. Actually very easy to build on the framework structure. Maybe one day I will get some more time available and be able to continue development on it. Latest news is therefore still the same - project is still currently on hold but definitely not forgotten. Updated Help Wanted page - added section about Coding as get a few emails about it.
Due to work and other commitments I have been unable to do any work on Cricket Manager for months. The project is currently on hold. I definitely want to come back to it when I get some time.
The Cricket Manager mailing list is no longer running. ListBot who ran the service have stopped all free mailing lists. I will try and find an alternative service.
Moved earliest anticipated release to late 2001.
Updated Wish List page - added suggestions from Matthew Partridge.
Not so much an update just changing the earliest anticipated release to be December 2000. This is as a result of not being able to work on Cricket Manager whilst I am working for Empire on International Cricket Captain 2000.
Updated Wish List page - added suggestions from Campbell and Aaron and Jono.
As a result of getting the 3 month programming contract in Isle of Man this is going to have the knock on effect of delaying Cricket Manager by a further 3 months. The earliest release is now going to be summer 2000. In the mean time though do look at Internet Test Cricket. Updated Wish List page - added suggestions from John Clemens and Sean Tomasinski.
Updated Wish List page - added suggestion from Daniel Cumming.
Development of Cricket Manager is again temporarily on hold (and has been for the last month or so) as I have other commitments and have also been working on a different project. Earliest anticipated date of release is now March 2000. I still don't have a working model of the game yet. Updated Features page - added some new features as the result of Wish Lists. Updated Wish List page - added Lists from Amit Patel and Adam.
Updated Wish List page - added List from Omar Ferreira.
Updated Wish List page - added List from Matthew Partridge.
Added new mailing list dedicated to Cricket Manager. The list will be used to discuss development issues. Anyone interested in the design and development for Cricket Manager can subscrive by filling in the form. Any body on the list can post messages. Brett Ashby suggests 'A good name for Cricket Manager would be something less obvious. Pavilion would be cool. If you have to have an obvious one, Professional Cricketer or Professional Cricket Manager would be good.'
Added Feedback page. Added Wish List page - use this to submit wish lists for Cricket Manager.
ICGW is currently running a poll for the new name for Cricket Manager. Whilst I do not guarantee to select the name wining the poll please do cast a vote if you have a preference. Names included in the poll are International Cricket League, International Cricket Manager, World Cricket League and World Cricket Manager.
Yet more potential new names for Cricket Manager. Real Life Cricket, Authentic Cricket, Cricket Epidemic (Punchline - I can tell you it ain't catching!), All Squad Cricket, Five Star Cricket, Bat To Ball and First Class Cricket - all suggested by Thomas Rose. My current favourites of the names suggested are International Cricket Manager, World Cricket League and SimCricket.
More potential new names for Cricket Manager. Cricket Fraternity, Professional Cricket, A Cricketers Life and Kings of Cricket - all suggested by Tristram McKay. World Cricket League - suggested by Tyrone Marshall.
Had several suggestions for a new name for Cricket Manager. Cricket Coach - suggested by several people and one I had thought of myself. The 12th Man, Eleven, Willow & Leather, Superstar Cricket(er), (International) Cricket Board and (International) Cricket League - all suggested by Dave Austin. Essential Cricket and Cricket Theory 101 - suggested by Mic. County Manager and Cricket Watcher - suggested by John Drinkwater. SimCricket and Captain and Coach - suggested by Matthew Coyle. Cricket Master, Boundary and Domestic Cricket - suggested by Jose Luis Salcines. My personal favourites are probably Cricket Coach and SimCricket (have Maxis trademarked the SIM name?) and I also thought of International Cricket Manager which would be a good follow on name from International Test Cricket plus can be abbreviated to 3 letters like BLC, ITC and ICC :-) If you have any opinions or further ideas please send them to me.
I may have to think of a new name for Cricket Manager. I was hoping to register the domain cricketmanager.com but much to my surprise it has already gone. I could either continue to call it Cricket Manager and host it here at CricketGames.com or come up with an alternative name. The name has to be less than 18 characters long (maximum length of a domain name) and describe the game. If you have any ideas please send them to me.
First the bad news - As a result of lack of money I have had to give up the idea of working full time on Cricket Manager and go back into full time employment (I start tomorrow). This will obviously have the effect of delaying Cricket Manager and I now anticipate it will August 1999 at the earliest before any beta versions will be available. I had hoped I could fund myself through the development of Cricket Manager but registrations of International Test Cricket have slowed down and sales of the CricketGames.com CD-ROM have been disappointing. Whilst work on Cricket Manager has been very slow recently quite a lot of investigation work has been done using International Test Cricket.
Hopefully development on Cricket Manager will start again soon. Currently I am busy updating and completing these web pages to cover every cricket game. The release of v1.28 of International Test Cricket did fix the obscure crash bug so that is no longer holding up progress. There is not going to be a specific Cricket Manager forum just the general CricketGames.com forum. If you want to start a discussion about Cricket Manager please post a message in the forum.
Due to revamp of pages I have had to temporarily remove the Cricket Manager forum. I have saved all the existing messages and hopefully the forum will return in a few days. Development of Cricket Manager has been very slow for the last few weeks as I have been working very hard to try and remove an obscure crash bug from International Test Cricket. As I have been unable to recreate the crash it has proved very hard to track down. Hopefully with the release of v1.28 I can get back to development of Cricket Manager.
