ICC 2000 Box

International Cricket Captain 2000 is the third version of the popular PC management game. It was developed by Empire and was released on 30 June 2000. I worked for Empire developing the Network/Internet part of the game.

Monday, 26th January 2004

** Important News **
The server used for playing on-line will close from 31st January 2004. The number of people using the server has reduced to the extent it is no longer justifies the monthly dedicated server costs. If you select Network Game after that date it will always come up with the connection failure box.

It has been confirmed that the forum will not be re-appearing. The forum was hosted by the US Empire site and the UK office has no plans to support a new forum. I am potentially investigating setting up an unofficial forum that Empire have said they will link to.

The online server is now back up and running. Sorry for the delay in getting it back up and running but I could not connect to the server to restore it before I left for work last Monday. Finally contacted the company hosting the server direct and after getting Empire to confirm I was supporting the server had the machine rebooted.

The Empire cricket forum is still down as it has been for about a month now. I kept pestering Empire about it but the forum was based on a US empire server. I fear it will not be resurrected which is a real shame.

International Cricket Captain 2001 has been announced.

The Official International Cricket Captain 2000 server is now up and running. To join it simply click on Network game which will automatically download the patch required to access the server. A downloadable version of the patch should appear on the Empire site very soon. I hope to add more details about the server soon.

The latest Beta server (which is available to everyone who has bought the game) has now been running fine for well over a week. I am now just waiting on internal testing at Empire to say the network changes have not introduced any new bugs in to the game. Coding as far as I am concerned is now finished. I wanted to release the official patch last Friday but could not due to complications getting the patch to Empire. If you are playing on the beta server and have noticed new bugs please let me know. Likewise if it all plays as normal please let me know as they could speed up the process.

Updated Reviews page - added Link to review by GameSpot UK and summary of review by PC Format.

The latest Beta server (which is available to everyone who has bought the game) has proved very reliable. This will hopefully mean once the latest patch used for the beta server has gone through internal Empire testing to confirm it does not effect the main game it will be officially released and the full version of the server started.

*** TESTERS WANTED FOR BETA SERVER ***

Empire are looking for 20-30 people to help test a beta server. For more details see the ICC Discussion Forum or send an empty email to icc2000servertest@cricketgames.com which will auto respond with more details. Currently there are less than 10 people signed up so plenty of space left for other people.

It is currently looking like Sunday (30th) morning (GMT) will be the hopeful release of the beta server.
